    Notes: Abstract Building upon Kostant's graded manifold theory, we present a new way of introducing spinors into the spacetime manifold, by expanding the algebra of functions on spacetime to a graded algebra. The elements of differential geometry are generalized to accomodate the expanded algebra of functions and in this enriched geometry we find the elements of supersymmetry and of supergravity theory. The geometrical role of the supergravity fields is discussed and a derivation of their transformation rules is given.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper, we investigate distributed mutual exclusion algorithms and delineate the features of a new distributed mutual exclusion algorithm. The basis of the algorithm is the logical ring structure employed in token-based mutual exclusion algorithms. Specifically, there exists dynamic properties of the logical ring that, given certain restrictions regarding message traffic flow, passively give useful information about the location of the token. Effectively, the algorithm demonstrates a type of “intelligent routing” that identifies useful shortcuts in the routing of the token. The result is a reduction in the total number of messages exchanged prior to the execution of the critical section as compared to the algorithm proposed by Fu and Tzeng [3]. Furthermore, the algorithm allows for an increased degree of fairness in a lightly loaded system than that allowed by Fu and Tzeng's algorithm. The paper also addresses failure recovery issues.

    Notes: Abstract In a recent paper David Garfinkle and Robert Wald argue that it is possible to build a “box” which will confine and thermalize gravitational radiation. Using the results of their calculations I will show that the Garfinkle-Wald (GW) box will fail to isolate and thermalize gravitational radiation in a universe with external gravitational radiation. The absence of alocal equilibrium distribution of gravitational radiation in this model is further evidence that an operational interpretation of a quantum theory of gravity based on General Relativity and traditional matter couplings does not exist.
