    Notes: Three C-terminal variants of the human norepinephrine transporter (hNET) are known: the wild-type hNET in which exon 14 encodes the last seven amino acids and two variants with either three or 18 amino acids encoded by an alternatively spliced exon 15. In transfected HEK293 cells we compared by means of [3H]norepinephrine ([3H]NE) uptake and [3H]nisoxetine ([3H]NIS) binding the functional properties of the wild-type hNET with those of the more abundant long splice variant containing exon 15 (hNET-Ex15L) and of two artificial hNET mutants lacking either the last three (hNET-Ex14–4) or all seven (hNET-Ex14–0) C-terminal amino acids of exon 14. No differences among the NET isoforms were observed concerning the Km for uptake of NE and the KD for binding of NIS. However, compared with the wild-type hNET, the three isoforms (hNET-Ex15L, hNET-Ex14–4 and hNET-Ex14–0) showed a pronounced decrease in Vmax of [3H]NE uptake and Bmax of [3H]NIS binding which correlated with strongly reduced surface expression of the transporter isoforms. The decrease in surface expression of the hNET isoforms is probably a consequence of the lack of the three amino acids leucine, alanine and isoleucine at the C-terminal end which may represent a motif facilitating cell surface expression of the hNET. Expression of hNET-Ex15L exerted a dominant negative effect on plasma membrane expression of the wild-type hNET and thus may represent a novel mechanism for regulation of noradrenergic neurotransmission.

    Notes: Summary In 31 rabbits the stumps of the previously severed vasa deferentes were joined with a fibrin glue and splinted in various ways: silicone T-tube, silk thread and chromium catgut thread. In a fourth group the vasovasostomy was carried out with a suture. The patency of the vasa deferentes was examined by evaluation of of the ejaculate, vasogrphy and histological examination. In almost 50% of the cases, patency of the was deferens was achieved with fibrin glueing. According to our investigations, temporary splinting with silk thread during the glueing or suture process appears to be the best method. Patency of anastomosed vasa deferentes should be evaluated by examination of the ejaculate. The radiological findings only permit a definitue statement when there is bilateral occlusion.

    Notes: Summary In 46 patients with subdural effusions CSF dynamics and especially the influx of contrast medium from CSF to the subdural fluid accumulation was investigated by serial computed tomography (CT). In 16 cases the subdural effusion was of traumatic and in 30 cases of non-traumatic origin. The results allowed a subdivision of the patients into three groups. Group 1: patients without contrast medium influx into the subdural fluid accumulation; group 2: patients with delayed influx; group 3: patients with immediate influx. In group 1 patients the subdural effusion acted as a space-occupying process with absolute indication for surgical treatment. Also in group 2 patients the further course showed that a surgical indication was given, because the fluid accumulation did not resolve under conservative management but increased in size, and/or the neurological deficit worsened. In all group 3 patients the subdural effusions decreased and finally disappeared conservatively. Group 1 patients with effusions on traumatic origin generally had more severe injuries than the patients of the other groups. The investigations caused no serious complications. This diagnostic method proved to be a reliable means for early differentation between the possibility of conservative mangement or the indication for operative treatment in cases with subdural effusions of different origin.

Die 6-Acetyl-dimethylen-glucose wird durch Kaliumpermanganat in phosphorsaurer Lösung zum 6-Acetylmonomethylen-glucose-carbonat-(1.2) oxydiert, aus dem eine Monomethylen-glucose erhalten wird, die Fehlingsche Lösung reduziert und ein Monomethylen glucose-phenylosazon liefert. In ihr ist die Methylengruppe in 3.5-Stellung gebunden, da sie nur 1 Mol. Natriumperjodat verbraucht. Die zweite Methylengruppe der Dimethylen-glucose sitzt in 1.2-Stellung.Für die Monomethylen-glucose von Tollens wird ein neues einfacheres Darstellungsverfahren angegeben. Sie enthält die Methylen-gruppe in 4.6-Stellung, wie sich aus dem Verbrauch von 2 Moll. Perjodat unter Bildung von 2 Moll. Ameisensäure ergibt.
