    Notes: Abstract The increase in plasma concentration of atrial natriuretic factor in heart transplant patients has not been fully elucidated. Besides an eventual pressure or volume overload leading to passive atrial distension, the atrial tension developed during atrial systole, or atrial ejection force, which may be increased by the transplantation procedure, is an important determinant of atrial natriuretic factor release. We therefore determined the plasma concentration of atrial natriuretic factor and the maximal atrial ejection force in 15 heart transplant patients and 8 controls, matched for age and body mass. Atrial ejection force, as defined as the force exerted by the left atrium to accelerate blood into the left ventricle during atrial systole, was obtained using combined two-dimensional imaging and doppler echocardiography. Serum creatinin concentrations, heart rate [91.9 (SD 13.2) vs 71.8 (SD 10.9) beats · min−1], mean arterial blood pressure [103.9 (SD 9.8) vs 87.4 (SD 5.8) mmHg, 13.85 (SD 1.31) vs 11.65 (SD 0.77) kPa], left ventricular posterior wall thickness and interventricular septum thickness were higher in heart transplant patients compared to controls. Plasma concentration of atrial natriuretic factor was also elevated in heart transplant patients [63.9 (SD 18.1) vs 34.0 (SD 3.2) pg · ml−1; P〈0.001]. In contrast, although the left atrial area was greater in heart transplant patients [28.2 (SD 4.8) vs 15.8 (SD 2.5) cm2; P〈0.001], mitral area, transmitral Doppler A-wave maximal velocity and atrial ejection force were similar in transplant and in control patients [7.7 (SD 3.5) vs 8.9 (SD 2.8) kdyn, 77 (SD 35) vs 89 (SD 28) mN]. No significant correlation was observed between concentration of atrial natriuretic factor and atrial ejection force, either in heart transplant patients or in controls. Thus, the elevated plasma concentration of atrial natriuretic factor observed in these heart transplant patients was multifactorial in origin, and was considered to depend upon an hypersecretion rather than upon a decreased clearance rate. Moreover, it is suggested that the atrial ejection force was unlikely to have participated in this enhanced release of atrial natriuretic factor.

    Description / Table of Contents: The ternary disilicides of group-II elements Ca1-xSrxSi2 und Sr1-xBaxSi2 are prepared and crystallographically investigated. In the quasibinary system CaSi2—SrSi2 the structures of the Ca-rich phases can be described as stacks of twodimensional corrugated sheets of Si hexagons. The phases Sr1-xBaxSi2 with X = 0.2 to X = 1.0 crystallize in the structure type of BaSi2 with isolated Si4 tetrahedrons. There in no miscibility between CaSi2 and BaSi2 in the solid phase.
    Notes: Die ternären Erdalkalidisilicide der Stöchiometrie Ca1-xSrxSi2 und Sr1-xBaxSi2 wurden dargestellt und röntgenographisch charakterisiert. Im quasibinären Schnitt CaSi2—SrSi2 wurden im Ca-reichen Teil Phasen erhalten, deren Strukturen sich als Stapelvarianten mit zweidimensionalen, gewellten Si-Sechsecknetzen erwiesen. Im System Sr1-xBaxSi2 tritt der Strukturtyp des BaSi2 mit isolierten Si4-Tetraedern von x = 0,2 bis x = 1,0 auf. Der quasibinäre Schnitt BaSi2—CaSi2 entspricht dem Zustandsdiagramm eines Zweistoffsystems ohne Mischkristallbildung.

    Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Crystal Structure of the Thiotellurites BaTeS3·2H2O and (NH4)2TeS3The new compounds BaTeS3 · 2 H2O and (NH4)2TeS3 have been prepared and their structures determined. According to these the anion of the trithiotelluric acid in these compounds represents a distorted trigonal TeS32--pyramid. The Te—S-distances are 2.34-2.36 Å. Crystallographic data see „Inhaltsübersicht“.

Die kristallographischen Daten sind: Nach den vollständigen röntgenographischen Strukturaufklärungen stellt das Anion der trithiotellurigen Säure TeS32- in diesen Salzen eine verzerrte trigonale Pyramide dar. Die Te—S-Atomabstände liegen zwischen 2,34-2,36 Å.

    Description / Table of Contents: Carbonate Isostructural Anions [SnX3]5- in the Compounds Rb6[SnX3]O0.5 and Cs6[SnX3]O0.5 with X = As, Sb, and BiThe metallic shining compounds Rb6[SnX3]O0.5 and Cs6[SnX3]O0.5 with X = As, Sb, and Bi were prepared from the melt starting from adequate mixtures of the elements and SnO2. They crystallize in the hexagonal system (space group P63/mmc, No. 194, Z = 2) with the lattice constants mentioned in „Inhaltsübersicht“. In the structures of the isotypic compounds tin and the main group(V) elements build up trigonal planar anions [SnX3]5- with X = As, Sb, and Bi isostructural to the carbonate anion, oxygen forms isolated O2- ions. The bond lengths Sn—X are significantly shortened with respect to the sums of Pauling covalent radii. The atoms of the units [SnX3]5- are coordinated by alkali metal cations forming trigonal prisms and the O2- anions occupy octahedral holes.

Sie kristallisieren hexagonal, Raumgruppe P63/mme (Nr. 194), Z = 2, mit den Gitterkonstanten: In den Kristallstrukturen der isotypen Verbindungen treten zum Carbonatanion isostrukturelle [SnX3]5--Anionen mit X = As, Sb und Bi und isolierte O2--Ionen auf. Die Bindungslängen Sn—X sind gegenüber der Summe der kovalenten Einfachbindungsradien nach Pauling signifikant verkürzt. Die Atome der [SnX3]5--Einheiten werden von den Alkalimetallkationen in Form von trigonalen Prismen koordiniert, die O2--Anionen besetzen Oktaederlücken.

The compounds crystallize in the trigonal system (space group R3m, No. 166, Z = 3) with lattice constants see in “Inhaltsübersicht”. The structures are isotypic to Sr[Sn2As2] containing puckered ∞2[SnAs] nets which are stacked with a sequence of six layers. The E(I)/E(II) atoms are located between each second ∞2[SnAs] layer in trigonal antiprismatic interstices formed by As atoms. In the resulting ∞2[Sn2As2] double layers the ∞2[SnAs] nets are stacked in such a way that additional Sn - Sn contacts arise.

Jeder zweite ∞1[SnAs]-Schichtzwischenraum ist von E(I)/E(II)-Atomen in trigonal antiprismatischen Lücken aus As-Atomen belegt. In den resultierenden ∞2[Sn2As2]-Doppelschichtpaketen sind die benachbarten ∞2[SnAs]-Netze so zueinander orientiert, daß relativ kurze Sn - Sn-Kontake ausgebildet werden.

K3[SnSb3] crystallizes in the monoclinic system, group C2/m (No 12), Z = 2, with lattice constants a = 1768.6(2) pm, b = 428.1(1) pm. c = 604.5(1) pm, β = 95.72(5)°. In the anionic partial structure six-membered rings [Sn2Sb4] with chair conformation are connected via common edges to infinite chains ∞1[SnSb3]3-. The potassium cations separate the chains from each other.
    Notes: Die metallisch glänzende, sehr hydrolyseempfindliche Verbindung K3[SnSb3] wurde aus Schmelzreaktionen, ausgehend von Gemengen der Elemente erhalten. K3[SnSb3] kristallisiert monoklin in der Raumgruppe C2/m (Nr, 12), Z = 2, mit den Gitterkonstanten a = 1768,6(2) pm, b = 428,1(1) pm, c = 694,5(1) pm, β = 95,72(5)°. In der Anionenteilstruktur sind [Sn2Sb4]-Sechsringe in Sesselkonformation über zwei gegenüberliegende Kanten zu eindimensional unendlichen ∞1[SnSb3]3--Bändern verknüpft. Die Kaliumkationen separieren die Bänder voneinander.
