    Description: Rapid advances in DNA synthesis techniques have made it possible to engineer viruses, biochemical pathways and assemble bacterial genomes. Here, we report the synthesis of a functional 272,871-base pair designer eukaryotic chromosome, synIII, which is based on the 316,617-base pair native Saccharomyces cerevisiae chromosome III. Changes to synIII include TAG/TAA stop-codon replacements, deletion of subtelomeric regions, introns, transfer RNAs, transposons, and silent mating loci as well as insertion of loxPsym sites to enable genome scrambling. SynIII is functional in S. cerevisiae. Scrambling of the chromosome in a heterozygous diploid reveals a large increase in a-mater derivatives resulting from loss of the MATalpha allele on synIII.     Notes: Abstract We consider a summability matrix A with sectional convergence (in the null-domain) and use sectional submethods B. If (I - B)s has small oscillation (for a suitable B), then s also has small oscillation. Employing a set of such B, we obtain Tauberian results yielding convergence (also with one-sided conditions). In particular this analysis applies to weighted means. Thus we have a new approach to results given by Móricz and Rhoades [3].

    Description / Table of Contents: The mass spectrometric fragmentation of some sulphur containing dibenzo-heterocycles and their S-oxides is investigated by exact mass measurements. The stability of the molecular ions and their fragmentation strongly depends upon the nature of the bridging atom groups in the central six-membered ring. Two mechanisms are discussed for the elimination of ketene from the N-acetylic derivatives of phenothiazine and its S-oxides.
    Notes: Das massenspektrometrische Fragmentierungsverhalten schwefelhaltiger Dibenzoheterocyclen und deren S-oxide wird mit Hilfe exakter Massenmessungen untersucht. Die Stabilität der Molekülionen und der Zerfall hängen stark von der Art der Zweiten Atomgruppe im zentralen Sechsring ab. Für die Ketenabspalutung aus den N-Acetylderivaten von Phenothiazin und dessen S-Oxiden werden Mechanismen diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: The mass spectra of some alkyl-,aryl-, acyl-and aroyl-substituted 1,2,3-thiadiazoles and ofbenzothiadiazole are reported and interpreted. After the elimination of N2 from the molecular ion a rearrangement of the [M - N2]+.-ion occurs producing a thioketenion-radical. Some of the subsequent fragmentation processes demand this structure. Additionally expulsion of S and ·SH respectively from the non-rearranged [M - N2]+.-ion is discussed.
    Notes: Die Massenspektren einiger alkyl-, aryl-, acyl- und aroylsubstituierter 1,2,3-Thiadiazole und des Benzothiadiazols werden mitgeteilt und interpretiert. Nach der Abspattung von N2 aus dem Molekiilion erleidet das [M - N2]+.-ion eine Art WolRsche Umlagerung zu einem Thioketen-Ionen-Radikal. Ais Beweis wird die Bildung von Fragmentionen angefiihrt, die eine solche Umlagerung voraussetzen. Außerdem wird die Eliminierung von S bzw. ·SH aus dem nicht ungelagerten [M - N2]+.-Ion diskutiert.

    Notes: Summary Atmospheric ozone concentrations have been monitored at a subalpine forest ecosystem site, 3180m above mean sea level (msl), and at a 2680m msl forest-steppe ecotone site 15km to the southeast. Ozone concentrations were monitored at three heights above the ground on a 30m tower at the higher elevation site, and on a 10m tower in a large meadow downwind of this site. The research reported here concentrates on the data for the first six months of 1990–1994. The diel amplitude of ozone concentrations is very small in winter, increasing as the seasons advance to June. Following snowmelt in late May or June, the nighttime minima decrease under the forest canopy. The highest monthly mean ozone concentrations occur in April or May, depending on the year. Episodal high concentrations were recorded during spring months when upper level atmospheric low pressure troughs and cut-off low centers occurred. These contributions peak in May, and add about 10% to normal May background ozone concentrations, varying widely from year to year. Spectral representations of ozone concentrations, illustrate the suppression of the diel peak during spring months, when stratospheric-tropospheric intrusion patterns show no significant diel cycle.

    Description / Table of Contents: Besides o-benzoquinones and o-naphthoquinones, p-quinones and stilbene quinones also exhibit [M + 2]+·-peaks. These are mainly produced by the residual moisture in the mass spectrometer and are more dependent on the partial pressure of the compounds and of the present water respectively, than on the temperature. The spectra of the [M + 2]+·-ions correspond to those of the ionized quinols. There exists a parallelism between the redox potential and the intensity of the [M + 2]+·-peak of p-quinonoid systems. The electron-impact induced fragmentations of 2,6-ditert.-butyl-benzoquinone-(1,4) and 3,5-di-tert.-butylbenzoquinone-(1,2) are discussed.

Diese beruhenim wesentlichen auf der Restfeuchtigkeit mi Massenspektrometer und hängen stärker vom Partialdruck dersubstanzen bzw. des Wassers als von der Temperatur ab. Die Spektren der [M + 2]+·-Ionen entsprechen denjenigen der zugehörigen ionisierten Hydrochinone. Zwischen dem Redoxpotential und der Instensität des [M + 2]+·-Peaks p-chinoider Systeme besteht ein Zusammenhang. Die elektronenstoßinduzierte Fragmentierung von 2.6-Di-tert.-butyl-benzochinon-(1.4) und 3.5-Di-tert.-butylbenzochinon-(1.2) wird diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: The structure of the [M  -  1] ions of thioxanthene (I) and xanthene (II) is investigated by means of the 9,9-dideuteroderivatives (Ia and Ia). The formation of an [M  -  1]ion from Ia and IIa shows that beside a simple dissociation reaction a rearrangement to a tropylium ion is involved. A further rearrangements of this type occurs in the frgmentation of thioxanthene-S,S-dioxide (III).
    Notes: Die struktur der [M  -  1]-Ionen von Thioxanthen (I) und Xanthen (II) wird mit Hilfe der 9,9-Dideuteroderivate (Ia und IIa) untersucht. Das Auftreten eines [M  -  1]-Ions auch bei Ia und IIa zeigt, daß neben einer einfachen Abspaltungsreaktion eine Umlagerung zu einem Troppyliumkation beteilligt ist. Eine wietere derartige Umlagerungsreaktion tritt auch bei der Fragmentierung von Thioxanthen-S,S-dioxid (III) auf.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary In the question of temperature dependence of ozone content of the atmosphere A. andE. Vassy have concluded from the equation loge n −logJ n ≅logK(T n ) that also the formula loge n ≅logJ n +logK(T n ) must be valid. In this paper it is proved that the neglections which may be admitted for the first equation, can conduct to great errors. Therefore A. andE. Vassy have not produced a proof for the correctness of the equatione=J.K(T).
    Abstract: Résumé A. etE. Vassy en étuidant le problème de la teneur de l'ozone atmosphérique en relation avec la température ont admis que l'équation loge n −logJ n ≅logK(T n ) entraînait aussi la relation loge n ≅logJ n +logK(T n ). On montre ici que les simplifications admises pour la première équation conduisent pour l'application de la seconde à de fortes erreurs, et que par conséquent ces auteurs n'ont pas fourni de preuve de la justesse de la relatione=J.K(T).
    Notes: Zusammenfassung A. undE. Vassy haben in der Frage der Temperatur-abhängigkeit des Ozongehalts der Atmosphäre aus der Gleichung loge n −logJ n ≅logK(T n ) geschlossen, daß auch die Gleichung loge n ≅logJ n +logK(T n ) gültig sei. Es wird hier nun gezeigt, daß die bei der ersten Gleichung erlaubten Vernachlässigungen bei der zweiten zu großen Fehlern führen können und daß daher von A. undE. Vassy kein Beweis für die Richtigkeit der Beziehunge=J.K(T) erbracht ist.
