Notes: Hydrated ferric oxides prepared in the presence of acetate ions show substantially higher catalytic activity over that of ordinary hydrated ferric oxide (for the polymerization of propylene oxide). The maximum in activity is reached at a ratio of acetate to iron of 2. It is suggested that the active species are formed through the trinuclear μ-acetato-ferric complex. This would imply that the insertion mechanism requires a particular geometry with probably a minimum of three coordination centers.

Notes: Dihydro-α-jonol-acetate (I) geben bei der Umsetzung mit N-Brom-succinimid und nachfolgender Behandlung des Bromierungsproduktes mit Silberacetat ein Gemisch von Acetoxy-dihydro-jonol-acetaten, aus dem sich durch Verseifung und Chromatographie zwei ungesättigte Diole C13H24O2 isolieren lassen. Eines davon liefert bei der Oxydation mit Chrom(VI)-oxyd in Eisessig das 4-Oxo-dihydro-β-jonon (VII). Durch die partielle Hydrierung der letzteren Verbindung entsteht das 4-Oxo-tetrahydro-jonon (VIII), welches auch durch vollständige Hydrierung des ungesättigten Diols und nachfolgende Oxydation erhalten werden kann. Das 4-Oxo-tetrahydro-jonon wird durch Einwirkung von Säuren bzw. Aluminiumoxyd zu bicyclischen Oxy-ketonen isomerisiert.
