Notes: Abstract The paper describes the mode of origin, meiotic behaviour and phenotype of a primary trisomic (2n=12+1) of P. lagopus recovered from an experimental population of disomics. The additional chromosome advances seed germination and flowering.

Notes: Abstract The temperature variations of the electrical resistivity of alkali metals lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium and caesium are calculated in the free electron approximation and using Krebs's model for the phonon spectrum. The double average over the Fermi surface is evaluated by an improved method due toBailyn and the separation between normal and Umklapp processes is affected in a more satisfactory manner. The results of the calculations are compared with the experimental data obtained at different temperatures. The theoretical resistivity curves for sodium, potassium, rubidium and caesium show satisfactory agreement with experiment, but not in the case of lithium.

Notes: Abstract The temperature dependence of the thermal resistivity of alkali metals lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium and caesium is determined within the free electron approximation by using Krebs's model for the phonon dispersion relations. The normal and Umklapp contributions are obtained separately from an improved method following the procedure of an earlier paper. The results of calculations are compared with available experimental information. The theoretical and experimental resistivity curves are found to be of similar nature, but they show considerable disagreement at low and high temperatures.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Entfärbung belüfteter Indigokarmin-Lösung wurde unter Hochenergie-Ultraschall studiert.
Notes: Summary Decolourization of aerated indigocarmine solution has been studied by high energy ultrasound. Addition of volatile substances like methanol, ethanol and acetone had accelerating effect whereas thiourea showed inhibiting effect. Inhibition was also observed when the indigocarmine solution was saturated with nitrogen gas. Absorption spectra of the unexposed and exposed dye solutions in visible region indicate the fading of colour with the time of exposure. Bleaching process was found to be irreversible due to the complete rupture of indigocarmine molecules by HO2 and OH species formed in aerated aqueous dye solution. Hydrogen peroxide was found to help very slightly the decolourization.

Notes: Abstract The electrical and thermal resistivities of sodium, potassium and rubidium are computed in the free electron approximation using Bhatia's model of electron-lattice interaction. The normal and Umklapp contributions are obtained separately using the geometry of the reciprocal lattice. The agreement of the calculated electrical resistivity with experiment is satisfactory in the case of sodium and potassium, but not for rubidium. The general shape of the computed and experimental thermal resistivity curve is the same, but they show considerable divergence at low and high temperatures.

Notes: Abstract The ratio of the mean square displacement of thermal vibration and the square of interatomic separation at the melting point has been calculated for several cubic metals using the frequency distribution derived from Bhatia's three-force constant model. It is found that this ratio has roughly the same value for metals of certain groups of the periodic table, but exhibits wide variation from one group to another. Lindemann's melting law is shown to be inadequate.

Notes: Abstract Based on the principles of interaction of electromagnetic waves with semi-infinite media, a simplified model is developed for the study of biological tissue — EM wave interaction problems. The four common types of biological tissues viz, bone, blood, alveolar and muscle tissue, each in turn has been considered. Expression for the transmission loss of the incident EM waves have been derived and numerically evaluated. The results indicate that there is a frequency dependence of the transmission loss and variations with tissue type exist and that losses become significant above 30 MHz. Attenuation for muscular tissue is maximum at frequencies of about 200 MHz whereas the corresponding frequency for lung tissue is nearly the double. Suitable experiments have been designed and performed to verify the salient results of the model and a fair degree of agreement has been found between the experimental results and theoretical predictions. Possibilities for the improvement of the model and future applications of the model have been outlined.

Notes: Abstract In crosses betweenP. lagopus trisomic for chromosome 4 and normal disomics the extra chromosome is transmitted to about 1/4 of the progeny through the male side and to over 1/2 on the female side. Among the progeny some non-parental types which include a tetrasomic (2x + 2) and an aneutriploid (3x + 1) were also found. Chromosomal behaviour during their male meiosis is described.

Notes: Abstract Although half of the progeny of a cross between aneutriploid (3x + 1) and diploid individuals ofP. lagopus are diploids (2n = 12), hybrids with 2n = 14, 15 & 22 also occur. These have been screened for mode of chromosome pairing and phenotype. Data thus raised have been employed for evaluating their status and possible mode of origin.
