Notes: Summary Two families with X-linked dominant hypophosphatemia (McKusick No. *30780) were investigated for linkage of the disease locus with several marker genes defined by cloned, single-copy DNA sequences derived from defined regions of the X chromosome. Close linkage was found with DNA markers DXS41 (p99-6) and DXS43 (pD2) at Xp22, suggesting a location of the HPDR gene on the distal short arm of the X chromosome.

Notes: Abstract Pulses with energy of 0.5 to 15 mJ and a repetition rate of 20 kHz from a Q-switched CO2 laser with continuous discharge were employed to dissociate32SF6 and12CF3I at 0.25 mbar. Gas exchange by diffusion is rapid enough to maintain isotopic selectivity. Dissociation yields agree with those measured at slightly raised temperature by a TEA laser. Because photons are cheaper from Q-switched lasers than from TEA lasers, economic consequences can result for isotope separation.

Notes: Abstract The indicator radionuclide31Si produced in neutron and deuteron activation analysis for silicon via the reactions30Si(n,γ) and30Si(d,p), respectively, is specifically separated from the irradiated sample by distillation as31SiF4. In the case of aluminium, the distillation is carried out from a HF(HNO3)H2O2 medium and in the case of molybdenum, niobium, tantalum, titanium and vanadium from a HF/HNO3/HBr/H2SO4 medium. Using liquid scintillation counting, the achievable detection limits for neutron activation analysis are, depending on the type of the matrix, between 4–50 ng/g, and for the deuteron activation analysis of tantalum the detection limit is 5 ng/g.

Notes: Summary A combined method of high-performance liquid chromatography and UV-absorption spectroscopy is described for use in dynamic systems. It provides a way of obtaining detailed mechanistic information as well as quantitative data (rate constants, quantum yields), even though neither mechanism nor photoproducts are known. The kinetic treatment of the photoreaction of (E)-1-phenylpropene was successful, showing a photo-isomerization and a parallel step. Information on this additional step is obtained by using HPLC to observe the changes in the concentrations of the reactants' selectivity. The necessity of process control is demonstrated.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The impact of malocclusions and the consequent mandibular lateral displacement in the adult and in the growing subject is discussed. Correct assessment of the therapeutic position through clinical and radiographic examination is a preliminary condition for a rational orthodontic treatment. Thus, the modelling and remodelling potential of the mandible and particularly of the temporo-mandibular joint can be exploited.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Beim TeppichkäferAnthrenus flavipes wurde durch Selektionsdruck mit Permethrin Resistenz erzeugt.
Notes: Abstract Resistance to Permethrin inAnthrenus flavipes, was induced by selective pressure. Development of resistance over a period of 4.3 years was measured as feeding performance in a standard test series of known Permethrin content and compared with that of the normal sensitive strain. The findings were expressed both as absolute values of weight loss and also as relative Protection-Efficacy (E%). Development of resistance in the clothes-moth,Tineola bisselliella, was also evaluated with Permethrin as well as with moth- and beetle-proofing agents based on stomach poisons. On the basis of feeding performance a 70-fold increase in resistance withAnthrenus flavipes was evident after 22 generations. In order to achieve 85% Protection-Efficacy (tolerance for beetle-proofing according to SNV 195'901, 1971) a four-fold increase in Permethrin concentration was necessary. Tineola bisselliella showed no tendency to develop resistance to Permethrin and the stomach poisons ®MITIN FF and ®EULAN U 33 despite years of exposure.

Notes: This paper reports the results of an extensive study of the internal energy-transfer processes that occur in benzene–argon collisions. We used laser-induced fluorescence and information theory for determining the energy-transfer rates between internal states of benzene in the ground electronic state (1A1g). The method provides an estimate for the rate of rotational relaxation. It gives a measure of the fraction of molecules that absorb the laser radiation at a frequency near the center of the ν18 absorption band of benzene. The use of information theory gives estimates for all of the vibrational energy transfer rates. These fit the experimental data reasonably well. However, some of the data do deviate from the information theory model. This suggests that the statistical assumptions of the model are not sufficiently restrictive. One such restriction may be in the number of vibration quanta changing per collision..
