Notes: We present a formulation of Maxwell's equations in a conductive medium, in the time domain. In order to restrict the equations to the conductive half space, the solution in the air is represented by an integral boundary operator on the interface. The problem admits a variational formulation, allowing a finite element solution. A mathematical analysis is described for 2D and 3D models, and numerical results are presented.

Notes: Summary In 2944 cases of supination trauma of the ankle joint, fibular ligamentous instability could be identified 629 times. In 35 cases (5.5%) we found an inveterate rupture of the lateral ligament, of which 24 followed a recurring supination trauma. The false primary diagnosis “distortion” had led to 74% of these patients being treated conservatively. In 45 % an arthrosis could be seen radiologically, in 1/3 previously intact ligamentous structures had been damaged by the renewed trauma. The results of the follow-up examination were poor after delayed reconstruction of the ligament, with 42.9 % of patients asymptomatic and 52.4 % satisfied, compared with 90.5 % and 3.6 % after primary repair of the ligament.
