Notes: Abstract Subspecific differences were found in total and esterified cholesterol of Malayan tree shrews. Thirty-twoT. glis sordida (Tioman Island) had mean levels of 73.4 mg% total cholesterol and 50.6 mg% esterified cholesterol. Mean levels of 57.3 mg% total cholesterol and 38.2 mg% cholesterol esters were found in 25T. g. ferruginea from the Malayan mainland. Other factors such as sex, pregnancy, and perhaps stress as related to diet and density of population, appeared to contribute to the variance of cholesterol level between insular and mainland forms.

Notes: Summary In this paper we study the nonlinear fourth order differentiai equation uiv±F(u, v)u=0, where F is a pssitive monotone function of u. Asymptotic behaviour of certain solutions are treated in sections 2 and 4 while a two point boundary value problem is studied in section 3.

Notes: Summary We consider the space C[0, 1] together with its Borel σ-algebra A and a Wiener measure P. Let Ω denote a point in C[0, 1] and let x(Ω, t) denote the coordinate process. Then, {x(Ω, t), tε[0, 1]} is a Wiener process, and stochastic integrals of the form $$\int\limits_0^1 \varphi {\text{ }}(\omega ,t)dx(\omega ,t)$$ can be defined for a suitable class of ϕ. In this paper we consider a sequence of Stieltjes integrals of the form $$I_n = \int\limits_0^1 \varphi {\text{ }}(\omega ^n (\omega ),t)dx(\omega ^n (\omega ),t)$$ where {Ω n (Ω)} is a sequence of polygonal approximations to co. Conditions are found which ensure the quadratic-mean convergence of {I n }, and the limit is expressed as the sum of the stochastic integral $$\int\limits_0^1 \varphi {\text{ }}(\omega ,t)dx(\omega ,t)$$ and a “correction term”.

Notes: Summary The relationships of calcium, chlorinity and alkalinity were determined in a unique environment, in which the water mass was built up by the introduction of freshwater from a variety of sources onto an existing sea bed. Calcium precipitation was not expected because the continual inflow of large volumes of water kept the lake in a thoroughly mixed condition. Despite the abrupt chemical and physical changes which occured, a rough constant between non-carbonate calcium and chlorinity was derived, with an average value of 1.331, and a deviation of 0.165.

Notes: Summary The primary production was measured from May 1966 through April 1967, in the Thompson Lake, Southern Illinois. 14C, pH and O2 methods were used to study the entire community under natural conditions. During diurnal hours CO2 absorption occurred at a faster rate than O2 evolution. In late summer the CO2 uptake reached a maximum of 60 µmoles/l/hr, and O2 production reached a maximum of 36.3 µmoles/l/hr. An investigation of inorganic phosphate absorption was made with labelled Na2P32O4. The percentage rate of 32P absorption was widely scattered within a range of 0.04%–0.30%/min during the period of October to April. The average phosphate uptake in winter and in spring was 60 µg/l/hr. There is no indication of any direct relation between inorganic phosphate absorption rates and photosynthetic rates. A better correlation between temperature and inorganic phosphate absorption was observed. This shows that in the natural environment, temperature influences phosphate absorption more than other factors.
