Kersten Recent advances in stochastic modelling of reflectorless rangefinders revealed an inherent relationship among raw intensity values and the corresponding precision of observed distances. In order to derive the stochastic properties of a terrestrial laser scanner’s (TLS) rangefinder, distances have to be observed repeatedly. For this, the TLS of interest has to be operated in the so-called 1D-mode—a functionality which is offered only by a few manufacturers due to laser safety regulations. The article at hand proposes two methodologies to compute intensity-based stochastic models based on capturing geometric primitives in form of planar shapes utilising 3D-point clouds. At first the procedures are applied to a phase-based Zoller + Fröhlich IMAGER 5006h. The generated results are then evaluated by comparing the outcome to the parameters of a stochastic model which has been derived by means of measurements captured in 1D-mode. Another open research question is if intensity-based stochastic models are applicable for other rangefinder types. Therefore, one of the suggested procedures is applied to a Riegl VZ-400i impulse scanner, as well as a Leica ScanStation P40 TLS that deploys a hybrid rangefinder technology. The generated results successfully demonstrate alternative methods for the computation of intensity-based stochastic models as well as their transferability to other rangefinder technologies.

Gerdtham Dumisani Hompashe Anja Smith Ronelle Burger This is the first multi-district Standardised Patient (SP) study in South Africa. It measures the quality of TB screening at primary healthcare (PHC) facilities. We hypothesise that TB screening protocols and best practices are poorly adhered to at the PHC level. The SP method allows researchers to observe how healthcare providers identify, test and advise presumptive TB patients, and whether this aligns with clinical protocols and best practice. The study was conducted at PHC facilities in two provinces and 143 interactions at 39 facilities were analysed. Only 43% of interactions resulted in SPs receiving a TB sputum test and being offered an HIV test. TB sputum tests were conducted routinely (84%) while HIV tests were offered less frequently (47%). Nurses frequently neglected to ask SPs whether their household contacts had confirmed TB (54%). Antibiotics were prescribed without taking temperatures in 8% of cases. The importance of returning to the facility to receive TB test results was only explained in 28%. The SP method has highlighted gaps in clinical practice, signalling missed opportunities. Early detection of sub-optimal TB care is instrumental in decreasing TB-related morbidity and mortality. The findings provide the rationale for further quality improvement work in TB management.

In the frame of the European (EU) Pathways Project, the aim of the study is to compare existing strategies (policies, systems, and services) for professional (re-)integration of PwCDs and mental health conditions available at both European and national level between different European welfare models: Scandinavian, Continental, Anglo-Saxon, Mediterranean, and “Post-Communist”. Method: The European strategies were identified by an overview of relevant academic and grey literature searched through Medline and internet searches, while national strategies were explored through questionnaires and in-depth interviews with national relevant stakeholders. Results: The mapping of existing strategies revealed that, both at European and national level, PwCDs are often considered as part of the group of “persons with disabilities” and only in this case they can receive employment support. European countries put in place actions to support greater labor market participation, but these differ from country to country. Conclusion: Strategies targeting “persons with disabilities” do not necessarily address all the needs of persons with chronic diseases. Countries should consider the importance of employment for all to achieve smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth.

Ensuring a comfortable user experience is an important part of the mobile application design process. Evaluation of user experience is usually done through questionnaires and interviews, but it can be improved using eye tracking sensors for user experience studies. We conducted a user experience study of DriveGreen, a mobile application devoted to ecodriving for a transition to a low-carbon society. We used an inexpensive eye-tracking device in addition to standard User Experience Questionnaire and Single Ease Question questionnaires. The results show that the inexpensive eye-tracking device data correlate with data from User Experience Questionnaire and Single Ease Question questionnaires and interviews with users. We conclude that an enhancement of user experience evaluations with inexpensive eye-tracking device is possible.
