Notes: Raman spectra of II-VI semiconductor nanocrystals embedded in silicate glass matrices with near-resonance and resonance excitation in the range of electron transitions between size-quantized energy levels were studied. It is shown that only the transitions with angular momentum l = 0, 2 contribute to the resonance Raman enhancement. The influence of the electron-phonon interaction on the Raman excitation profiles of the LO phonons and elastic vibrations of nanocrystals is analysed. The effect of the matrix on the intensities and frequencies of the low-frequency Raman (LFR) bands and the possibilities of determining the particle size determination using LFR spectra are discussed.

Notes: The surface-enhanced resonance Raman and surfaces enhanced hyper-Raman (SERHR) spectra of a photochromatic indigoid dye were obtained. The influence of stationary additional lighting (AL) at the absorption bands of the photoisomers on the SERHR intensities was observed. This is connected not only with the changes in the photoisomer concentration on the silver surface under AL but also with different scattering intensities of the resonance hyper-Raman spectra of isomers due to their different symmetries.

Notes: Abstract It is shown that the data on spectral emissivity and reflectivity obtained in subsecond laser heating experiments differ from values which are obtained by the conventional methods. Owing to the semitransparency of oxides, these thermal radiation properties depend on the temperature distribution in near-surface layers and cannot be related to a definite temperature value. The condensation of the products of oxide evaporation at high temperatures, which takes place in air surrounding a sample, may affect the measurement of temperature, reflectivity, and emissivity.

Notes: Abstract Radiation transfer in highly scattering ceramics is described by a diffusion approximation based on the asymptotic relation of the radiant flux and the radiant energy density in material depth. In this approximation, a calculation of the effective absorption coefficient k and the radiation diffusion coefficient D is based on the measurement of normal-hemispherical transmission of specimens shaped as various-thickness disks. Taken into account are radiation field, twodimensionality, and the radiation boundary reflection effect. The optical property measurements have been performed on the experimental apparatus based on an integrating sphere, a collimated radiation source, and a twochannel data acquisition and processing system. Results of the measurements of k and D for the silica ceramic are given at room temperature.
