Notes:
Summary Increasing information on the internal structure of north Queensland fringing reefs shows that many have developed true reefal structures only since mid-Holocence times, over rapidly accumulated non-reefal sediments. The reefal veneer consists mainly of head corals and is generally less than 7 m in thickness. Early reef flat development may have been at a level slightly higher than modern sea level.
