    Notes: Summary Calcium and magnesium are present in molasses at variable and sub-optimal concentrations for yeast metabolism. A molasse wort containing 60 p.p.m. of magnesium and 125 p.p.m. of calcium allows an optimal fermentation. If calcium becomes quickly toxic by accumulation in the yeasts, this effect can be corrected by additions of magnesium, without significant effect on the biomass.

    Notes: Summary Stillage recycle in beet molasses alcoholic fermentation can be lower the production costs by a decrease of energy requirements for waste water treatment but it becomes necessary to optimise, separately, the sugar and non sugar contents of the wort. It is shown that the increase of the wort osmolality, linked to stillage recycle disturbs yeast metabolism above 1,5 osmol. The observed inhibition which is dependent on both sugar and non sugar concentrations leads to an apparent link between yeast behaviour and the dry matter percent of the worts.

    Notes: Summary Behaviour of lactic acid bacteria especially their stimulation in mixed culture with yeast was studied. In alcoholic fermentation of molasses worts, bacterial growth was stimulated as the yeast inoculum size increase. The consumption of monosaccharides (glucose and fructose) liberated during hydrolysis of sucrose by yeast is proposed as a major factor accounting for this phenomenon.

    Notes: Summary Alcoholic fermentation cycle with Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been studied on beet molasses exempt from nitrite ions and containing added amounts of these ions from 200 to 400 ppm. Experimental results indicate that fermentation duration increases with increasing nitrite concentration in the molasses. A detailed kinetic study reveals that this increase occurs only during the latency period. Moreover, the biomass and the ethanol production curves drawn after this period appear to be quite linear, their slope being independent of initial nitrite concentration. It has also been shown that nitrite ions turn completely into nitrate ions during the latency period. We have proved that this oxidation must be ascribed to yeast action and not to any chemical reactions between nitrite ions and molasses components.

Результаты указывают на то, что γ-Al2O3 придает высокую реактивность CoMoO4 и MoO3, давая при этом Раман-неактивные соединения.
    Notes: Abstract Raman spectroscopy has been used to study the solid state reaction of MoO3 and CoMoO4 with γ-Al2O3 and the compounds formed upon the adsorption of Co(II) an Mo (VI) on γ-Al2O3. Results show that γ-Al2O3 endows CoMoO4 and MoO3 with a high reactivity, giving Raman-inactive compounds.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract Техника ЭПР была использована для исследования сорбции Mn+2 на γ-окиси алюминия из водных растворов. На основе полученных результатов можно полагать, что Mn+2 адсорбирован в двух основных формах: 1) ограниченное количество (∼10−6моль/г γ-окиси алюминия) необратимо адсорбировано на дефектах решетки и 2) выше этого количества Mn+2 уже обратимо адсорбирован в виде гидратированного комплекса, диспергированного на поверхности. Под влиянием термической обработки в воздухе, центры адсорбированной поверхности были окислены, в то время как центры решетки остались неизменными.
    Notes: Abstract The ESR technique was used to investigate the sorption of Mn2+ on γ-alumina from aqueous solutions. The results suggest that Mn2+ is adsorbed in two main forms: 1) a limited amount (∼10−6 mol/g of γ-alumina) is irreversibly adsorbed on lattice defects, and 2) beyond this amount, Mn2+ is reversibly adsorbed as a hydrated complex dispersed on the surface. Upon thermal treatment in air the adsorbed surface species are oxidized while the lattice sites remain unchanged.

    Notes: Summary High-T c superconductors with nominal composition Bi1.8Pb0.4Sr2Ca2.2Cu3O x and eventually admixed with metallic silver were prepared by an original version of the citrate route which permits an excellent interspersion of the elements and makes no use of nitrates. After exsiccation, silver is found to be in metallic form with crystal size of about 300 Å. After the decomposition of the organic part, a special treatment was found to reduce the carbon content and to obtain only the desired phase composition,i.e. 2212, Ca2PbO4 and metallic Ag. The powders obtained show high reactivity in the high-T c phase formation and very little weight loss during calcination. Tapes prepared with the powder-in-tube method showed highJ c values and constant improvement after several thermal treatments.

    Notes: Summary Growth of a baker's yeast strain has been studied on beet molasses wort to determine the influence of molasses quality and concentration on alcohol toxicity with regard to yeast specific growth rate. A quantitative relation, based on Levenspiel's model has been found useful to describe the growth of our strain. The results show that ethanol toxicity can be directly linked to initial concentration of beet molasses in wort. The proposed model shows that in industrial distilleries, the batch-process may be more suitable than the fed-batch process.
