Abstract: The term epigenetics describes regulatory and information storing mechanisms of specific genes that do not involve any change of their DNA sequence. Epigenetics is closely related to the extensively folded state, in which the genome is packaged, known as chromatin. New genomic tools nowadays allow the genome-wide assessment of, for example, chromatin states and DNA modifications, and led to the discovery of unexpected new epigenetic principles, such as epigenomic memory. This was the start of the field of epigenomics, the relation of which to human health and disease is discussed in this textbook. This book aims to summarize, in a condensed form, the role of epigenomics in defining chromatin states that are representative of active genes (euchromatin) and repressed genes (heterochromatin). Moreover, this book discusses the principles of gene regulation, chromatin stability, genomic imprinting and the reversibility of DNA methylation and histone modifications. This information should enable a better understanding of cell type identities and will provide new directions for studies of, for example, cellular reprograming, the response of chromatin to environmental signals and epigenetic therapies that can improve or restore human health. In order to facilitate the latter, we favor a high figure-to-text ratio following the rule €œá picture tells more than thousand wordś€. The content of the book is based on the lecture course ́€œMolecular Medicine and Geneticś€ that is given by one of us (C. Carlberg) in different forms since 2002 at the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio. Thematically, this book is located between our textbooks ́€œMechanisms of Gene Regulatioń€ (ISBN 978-94-017-7741-4) and ́€œNutrigenomicś€ (ISBN 978-3-319-30415-1), studying of which may also be interesting to our readers. The book is sub-divided into three sections and 13 chapters. Following the Introduction (section A), section B will explain the molecular basis of epigenomics, while section C will provide examples for the impact of epigenomics in human health and disease. The lecture course is primarily designed for Master level students of biomedicine, but is also frequented by PhD students as well as by students of other bioscience disciplines. Abstract: This second edition of the book about Rare Diseases Epidemiology aims to highlight the progress of rare diseases research and related activities since the first volume published. As with the previous book, this update provides a comprehensive list of issues and adds new authors who are leaders in their different areas of expertise related to rare diseases at national and international levels. Rare diseases and orphan drugs are challenges for patients and families but also for physicians, researchers, and policy-makers in both the public and private sectors. This book aims to help all of them to address topics like health care policies, societal issues and clinical and experimental research. Readers will discover methods and procedures to address a variety of questions like cases of undiagnosed rare diseases, patient registries and biobanks, health care and public health approach to rare diseases, orphan drugs and new therapies, cost-effectiveness analyses, prevention, clinical and epidemiology of individual and groups of related rare diseases, novel advances in study design and data analyses, national and international policies and social issues. Within each one of these general issues, ℗ advances, new challenges and opportunities to address significant health care issues are described across thirty-two chapters. Abstract: Health agencies have declared personalized nanomedicine as an important area to investigate novel therapies to combat against targeted diseases with no-side effects. The disease profile varies from patient-to-patient and standard therapies sometime are unsuitable for complete cure. This raises the demand of nanomedicine development. The tunable therapeutic salient features of nanomedicine including site-specific delivery and controlled release of a specific drug according to patient requirement make nanomedicine very special. Such of human compatible personalization is very useful in diseases management required to optimize a therapy for health care. Knowing the potentials of the nanomedicines, significant efforts are being to design and develop nano-enabled therapeutic strategies to cure and monitor diseases contributing to personalized health care. As per state-of-the-art, various approaches have been optimized resulting in development of pharmacologically relevant personalized nanomedicine to combat against diseases with improved efficacy and no adverse effects. In this book, we described the fundamentals nanomedicine, nanotechnology for nanomedicine development, approach of personalized nanomedicine, potential novel nano-carriers for site-specific drug delivery, role of nano-bio-technology for efficient therapeutics, nano-pharmacology, targeted CNS drug delivery, stimuli- responsive drug release, aspects of bioinformatics for diseases management, miniaturized bio-sensing systems for diseases detection with monitoring, and nano-bio-technology for diseases management. The challenges in personalized nano-therapeutics development, possible vision to overcome challenges, and future prospects to promote therapies for clinical application are also discussed in this book. There are two parts in this book: Overview of the Human Genome (Part I) and The Human Genome Viewed through Genes (Part II). In Part I, after a brief review of human evolution and the human genome (by Naruya Saitou), chapters on rubbish or junk DNA (by Dan Graur), GC content heterogeneity (by Satoshi Oota), protein coding and RNA coding genes (by Tadashi Imanishi), duplicated genes (by Takashi Kitano), recombinations (by Montanucci and Bertranpetit), and copy number variations including microsatellites (by Naoko Takezaki) are discussed. Readers can obtain various new insights on the human genome from this part. In Part II, genes in X and Y chromosomes (by Yoko Satta and others), HLA genes (by Timothy A. Jinam), opsin genes (by Shoji Kawamura and Amanda D. There is a dual relationship wherein the tumor can change its microenvironment and the microenvironment can affect how a tumor grows and spreads. Tumor Microenvironment in Cancer Progression and Cancer Therapy℗ aims to shed light on the mechanisms, factors, and mediators that are involved in the℗ cancer cell environment. Recent studies have demonstrated that in addition to promoting tumor progression and protecting tumor cells from the spontaneous immune-mediated rejection and different forms of cancer therapeutics, tumor microenvironment can also be a target and mediator of both standard and newly-emerging forms of cancer therapeutics.
